About Dr. Chantal MacDonald
I studied at the University of Manitoba and my research was in the areas of trauma and adult attachment. I completed my residency in clinical psychology at the Capital District Health Authority in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2011 and I was registered with the Psychological Association of Manitoba in 2013. I have been providing psychological services since 2004 and I have had the great pleasure of working with a wide range of people during this time. I worked at a psychiatric hospital providing psychotherapy to individuals with severe mental illness for 8 years. I opened my private practice, MasterMind Psychology in October, 2016 and I now work in the practice full time.
Approach to Therapy
I am a Rogerian, or client-centred therapist (humanistic orientation). I believe that every person has the resources needed for growth, self-awareness, and self-direction within. I strive to help my clients connect to these resources and to their "authentic" selves so that they may live a life that is personally meaningful and purposeful. I have taken time to learn all four schools of psychological thought and I have trained in a great many therapeutic approaches. This always growing and integrated psychological awareness allows me to provide a holistic therapy experience tailored to the precise needs of my clients.
